ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the compatibility of respective frameworks and suggests integrating proposals. It explores the relevant legal and policy framework, taking into account the overarching European Commission's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The chapter also explores related developments at the EU and broader international level, as well as the European Commission's strategy concerning corporate social responsibility (CSR) and issues related therewith. The CSR standards shall also be promoted in developing countries by means of policy dialogue and development cooperation. The investigation of the SDGs also presupposes an interdisciplinary approach to the research. The predecessor of the SDGs might be found in the Millennium Development Goals proclaimed in 2001. The European Strategy on CSR sets an agenda consisting of several steps, including inter alia the integration of CSR principles into education, training and research, emphasizing national and sub-national CSR policies and better alignment of European and global approaches to CSR.
