ABSTRACT

Transgender and nonbinary (TNB) people are underrepresented, misrepresented, or erased within academia, media, cultural narratives, and social norms, as well as in sexual scripts that address wider understandings of sex, sexual orientation, sexual health, and how sexual pleasure is defined and understood. This chapter introduces a framework for clinicians, laypersons, and anyone else interested in shifting their world view and finding alternatives to the ways in which gender diversity and sexualities are perceived by normative Western society. It takes existing tangible tools and models known to social work and adapts them to be compatible with TNB communities. This text presents new sources, structures, and conceptualizations of how gender can be experienced by TNB individuals.
