ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the understanding of nature found in two classics within Critical Theory, Dialectic of Enlightenment by Horkheimer and Adorno and Theory of Communicative Action by Habermas. Albeit for different reasons, both works are loyal to the anthropocentric way of framing the society–nature relationship, and so unable to account for the ecological dimension of the pathologies produced by capitalist modernization.
