ABSTRACT

Work disability prevention in France is highly reliant on occupational physicians, who advise employers about suitable accommodations for workers with disabilities. Official disabled-worker status is key to work disability prevention. It is an incentive for employers for financial reasons (in that the status confers access to resources for workplace accommodations), and regulatory reasons (legislation mandates all employers with 20 or more workers to meet a quota of at least 6% of their employees being disabled workers). The French social security system strives to improve collaboration among healthcare professionals, occupational health services, and social security agencies.
