ABSTRACT

Work-disability prevention practice in Finland incorporates occupational health services, rehabilitation traditions, and the concept of work-ability promotion. Recently, pension insurance companies have taken a stronger role in work disability prevention by providing consultation services and vocational rehabilitation. Although the public insurance system is basically disability based, there are separate compensation systems for work injuries and traffic accidents. A lack of incentives for smaller companies as well as the complicated rehabilitation system present challenges to employees with disabilities related to return to work.
