ABSTRACT

Stith’s chapter focuses on a series of three improvisational exercises, the final one adapted from Robert Cohen’s exercise: One Two Three Four Five Six Seven. These exercises aim to explore multiple tactics in pursuit of a single objective by improvising, picking objectives out of a hat, and ending with content-less dialogue. “Using Improvisation to Identify Tactics” is geared for beginning acting students and non-majors to help them engage playfully with their scene partner and find a variety of playable tactics.
