ABSTRACT

“Engaging Obstacles” offers a thorough primer on Stanislavski’s concept, obstacle, and highlights how students can use strong obstacles to connect to objectives. Hoffman’s exercises explore different aspects of activating the obstacle to increase actors’ physical choices and heighten their investment in both the given and the imaginary circumstances. “Engaging Obstacles” acts as a lesson plan that combines theory with physical explorations that help the student viscerally discover the difference between strong and weak obstacles, and how they affect objectives.
