ABSTRACT

Implementation of technology systems in healthcare require significant financial investment both in software or system development cost and the resources and time commitment involved in its implantation in the organization. Comprehensive planning and ongoing assessment are necessary steps throughout all stages of the system selection and implementation process. The selection of an electronic health record system requires that healthcare change leaders develop an organized selection effort that will ensure a successful system adoption. A critical step toward purchasing any health IT system is performing a requirements analysis of the environment. System implementation follows contract negotiation. Implementation consists of converting from the old system to the new system and include a conversation about hardware, software and workflows. Testing and training are two essential activities that must be done well to ensure successful implementation.
