ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book utilizes the concept artful teaching, learning and research, indicating that performative approaches contain artfulness. It provides a performative view on knowledge production in discussion with learning theory. The book aims to move towards more equitable practices and affirmative spaces in and through arts pedagogy. It suggests a layered reading of one moment in an extensive Finnish research and development project organized in teacher education and performed within basic education. The diffractive reading implies reading with theory when looking back, and thereby the authors undertake a performative journey. The book argues that when technology, performative approaches to learning and composing on an iPad come together, this creates a teaching practice where the pupils’ creative forces and active contributions become a core of the learning activity.
