ABSTRACT
This chapter offers its readers a case study of Clearfield (Yasnopole). The ecological park was founded in 2015 and is situated on the banks of the river Oka, 120 kilometres outside of Moscow. This area of outstanding beauty has a span of 500 hectares. Rich in its flora and fauna, it is distinguished by its forests, fields, hills, lakes and rivers. The main idea of the eco-park is to promote a healthy lifestyle through events, workshops, activity holidays, and healthy eating as well as to advance research and innovation in the field of green architecture and construction. The chapter has demonstrated that the latest developments in the field of sustainability and responsibility initiated by the government in Russia during the Year of Ecology place great importance on the development of ecotourism in the country. However, the integration of society and innovation at the grass-roots level, such as in Clearfield, already contributes to the enhancement of ecotourism and addressing the global challenges of social and environmental change. A more collaborative approach by the government and society in developing eco-parks (and potentially eco-cities) would certainly achieve better results for the country and the global community.
