ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book provides a number of international examples of best practice in the management of destinations, venues, spaces and events. It focuses on some of the challenges of implementing sustainability procedures and achieving objectives. The book shows that many countries have few recognisable or government endorsed certification schemes or benchmarking systems. It discusses the importance of the involvement and commitment of all stakeholders. The book highlights some of the positive work that is being done within the motorsport industry, which has often been branded as an extremely damaging event as it involves the burning of fossil fuels, the creation of large global carbon footprints and the destruction of green spaces. It includes tips and advice, shares the results of research and investigations, and provides an honest commentary on some of the challenges involved in setting, working towards and achieving sustainability goals.
