ABSTRACT
Established in 2009, Lincs2Nepal is a charity based in Lincoln, England, which works with some of the poorest and most marginalised communities in Nepal. Main focus areas of their work are the provision of clean drinking water, which can have major health benefits for families and communities, and education, particularly for lower-caste and otherwise disadvantaged children. Shanti-Fest is one of many festivals that embrace environmental and ethical aspects. While the ethical credentials of music events can be in doubt as they are often complemented, or potentially even overshadowed, by the workings of a highly competitive industry, there are many efforts to make music festivals more environmentally friendly. Various working groups and awards exist and many festival organisers are keen to communicate their efforts for a greener festival, recognising their significant impact on natural resources, as well as on educating the public on environmental matters.
