ABSTRACT

Danish national urban policy, with its emphasis on the specific position of the large cities, could almost encompass all policy and planning issues, as almost all decisions have an impact on the urban system. Denmark is a very rich country with social and structural problems of low weight seen in an international perspective. General policies devoted to solving problems which concentrate in the large urban units have been formulated on drugs, criminality, low quality of life, social exclusion, immigrants, ghetto formation, congestion, mass public transport, urban renewal. The purpose of the actual Planning Act is to ensure that the overall planning synthesizes the interests of society with respect to land use and contributes to protecting the country's nature and environment. Strategic planning on the national level gives perspectives for the spatial structuring of Denmark in the future Europe, published as national reports.
