ABSTRACT

The United States is in the midst of an opioid overdose epidemic, and it is increasingly affecting rural communities. Opioid addiction is often seen as an urban problem, but rural areas have been hit much harder than the rest of the country. This case examines how the nation's two largest general farm organizations – the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) and National Farmer's Union (NFU) – joined forces in 2018 to find out why, and how to begin to address the public health crisis in rural America.
