ABSTRACT
Many years elapsed between the first time S. Freud and his method were named at an International Medicine Conference held in Buenos Aires in 1910 and the foundation of the Argentine Psychoanalytic Association in 1942. During those years, many philosophers, psychiatrists and intellectuals became familiar with Freud’s work. Some of them exchanged letters with him, and one even sent an invitation to Freud for him to settle in Argentina. Tension exists between the two main poles of thought in the mental health disciplines: the biological and the psychological. The fact that psychiatry is a medical specialty is common knowledge. The challenge of the moment is the disturbing impression that it is becoming so medical that it can lose its specificity. One of the most crucial and fascinating challenges of refers to the kind of professional whom think is best equipped.
