ABSTRACT

Despite a wealth of studies examining Algeria’s youth’s social and political attitudes, no longitudinal view has been attempted. This study seeks to explore changes in social and political attitudes and values of the Algerian youth during a 10-year period (2006–2016) as reflected in four waves of the data from the Arab barometer. We argue in this chapter that noticeable change has occurred in the youth’s outlook, especially among the new millennium cohort. On a liberal conservative value spectrum, the new youth were found to be socially conservative, more religious, yet less inclined to political Islam.
