ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes insights from the research and practice of the National Institute for Civil Discourse to define and support inclusive leadership through healthy political and public discourse. Discourse that unites communities and nations alike is expansive, it is inclusive in its ability to reach each one of us as human beings, and it is specific enough to direct us toward common goals and common action. Our political language can be the currency with which bonds of trust and cooperation are built; it can equally be the tool that chips away at our mutual ties and sense of purpose as a people.
