ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a model for developing inclusive leadership that provides a safe environment for situated learning and facilitates interpersonal connections as individuals engage with real-world issues such as social responsibility, equity, inclusion, ethics, and social justice. We describe our specific approach for developing millennials into inclusive ethical leaders by shifting the traditional social construction of leadership as grounded in power and dominance toward an inclusive, socially responsible, and relational leadership perspective. Given that the development of a leader’s identity and leadership skills are inextricably linked, this approach leverages the well-demonstrated advantage of experiential learning approaches in order to create positive transformational outcomes for millennials. We also outline lessons learned for the ongoing development of inclusive leaders who are prepared for positive transformative work within teams, organizations, and society.
