ABSTRACT

Groups, including the core members of a new institution such as a regional management centre, tend to go through four stages: forming; norming; storming; and performing. In the years since foreign and Polish groups of individuals began to work together to build management education and training institutions, a large number have been developed and many operate successfully. The long and impressive tradition of Polish education has made it hard for the educational system to accept awards such as Master of Business Administration (MBA) which are based on skill and competence development rather than intellectual rigour. Training organizations in Poland offer two routes to the acquisition of management expertise: one is to take a series of short courses which develop the necessary skills; the other is to take the more formal ‘education’ route and to acquire a diploma or MBA from one of the major centres.
