ABSTRACT

The stress of the patient is greatly reduced through the experience of being understood. Comfort is directed to painful experiences that remain in some way in the memory of the patient. The patient said repeatedly that the people who committed the abuse used ugly words like, "hell" and "Satan". These are the most common swear words in the Swedish language. Her complaints about their use of language was one of the few details that followed her across all of the meadows. It was Valerie who highlighted the importance of finding a sense of calm and peace in each session. She followed that, irrespective of the direction of the discourse, or the quality and intensity of the feelings, or the violence of the content, there is still a space for this calm and peace, and that it is part of the therapist's work to find this and to experience it alongside their patient.
