ABSTRACT

The research design was an online survey using a combination of closed-and open-ended questions. The closed-ended questions were used to obtain demographic information about the playworkers completing the survey. The open-ended questions allowed participants to answer survey questions in their own words. Using both closed- and open-ended questions enabled both quantitative and qualitative data to be collected and analysed. The playworkers’ demographics provided information on where the respondents were working, along with their playwork job role and level of playwork qualification. This enabled descriptive statistics to be undertaken and provided the scope to identify any possible relationships. Most playworkers within this online survey were first introduced to the Play Cycle through work (39%) followed by a training event (21%). Playworkers were asked to provide more detailed information on their introduction to the Play Cycle, enabling narrative data to be collected.
