ABSTRACT

Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center (GWCMC) was founded in September 2006 based on the merger of the former Guangzhou Children’s Hospital and Guangzhou Maternity and Infant Hospital. The Joint Commission International (JCI) Office of the hospital invited some quality management experts to education and train the staff on the standards. After the technical challenges had been smoothed out, the next move was to mobilize the staff. The JCI journey focuses on patient safety and continuous improvement of care. Survey is based on the accreditation and validation standards. Thus, it’s important to start from the standards. GWCMC has an average annual OPD visits at 4 million. It is very challenging to ensure the effectiveness of training under such work load. Medication, though, is mainly under the responsibility of the Pharmacy, the policies and procedures involving medications cover the entire operation surrounding drugs and many other jobs and roles outside the pharmacy.
