ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 reconsiders the definition of play by re-encounter with some top-down philosophies of games. While Ludwig Wittgenstein once critically rejected the definition of play, it was later positively re-affirmed by the philosopher Bernard Suits. And the theory of games, launched by the chemist Manfred Eigen showed a similar logic top-down from natural laws to human practice. The question of definition and the critique of systems concern, however, much broader epistemological fields than just play and game.
