ABSTRACT

The introduction of the GEC project advisers was one of the most significant decisions in setting up the programme. A lot was learned which is steadily being applied, but a lot of the important issues remain. They crystallized vividly quite early on — in fact just two months after the programme began. One evening there was a meeting at which the Action Learning Projects and GEC project advisers and the programme coordinators heatedly discussed management development, action learning, Developing Senior Managers Programmes 1 and GEC. The action learning programme enabled links to be forged with the Post Office and the Civil Service. The personnel department at Stanhope Gate was nominally in charge of the programme, assisted by the director of Dunchurch Industrial Staff College. The purpose of the interview was to explain to each candidate the ethos of the programme and its emerging reality.
