ABSTRACT

A community, in the broadest sense, is an organized, collaborative network of people. Though large bureaucracies have their role to play in impact, grassroots communities often constitute the backbone of enduring social change. A community, in the broadest sense, is an organized, collaborative network of people. From prayer groups to get-togethers at the local pub, the value of the community is that it helps people find order. Both online and offline, we need to be more thoughtful and deliberate about the kinds of communities we build, to ensure that they serve us in achieving the future we want. Flourishing grassroots communities are fundamental to systems change because their structures allow for the shaping, sharing, and spreading of stories. TEDx was about bringing diverse people together to hear and engage with ideas arising from local communities. It was a space where people could convene to discover and cultivate connections with one another and be inspired.
