ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that we need an anti-disciplinary approach and paradigm shifts that recognize how and why we must change the values of society from the measurement of financial value to a focus on flourishing and robustness. The 'antidisciplinary' requirement listed in that job posting captured the beating heart of this very different kind of organization. Interdisciplinary work is when people from different disciplines work together. But antidisciplinary is something very different; it's about working in spaces that simply don't fit into any existing academic discipline–a specific field of study with its own particular language, frameworks, and methods. Antidisciplinary is all about the non-elephant animals. The massive amounts of white space between the dots represent antidisciplinary space. The number of underrepresented minority students was also unacceptable, because it is not enough just to have a community in the anti-disciplinary model; it's necessary to have a diverse community so that a broad range of insights, attitudes, and expertise is available.
