ABSTRACT

The extensive scholarly work of J. S. Renzulli and S. M. Reis in the realm of talent development and the implementation of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) is a point of reference for school administrators, teachers and parents worldwide. This chapter focuses on the first practical steps taken to explore the implementation of SEM as a research project from its first beginning as a case study within multiple classes between February and April 2017. Design-based research experiments have the potential to provide robust explanations and innovative learning practices generated on theoretical and empirical grounds. Regarding the change in students’ performance during the implementation of SEM activities, the teachers considered performance to be bivalent and divided into specific knowledge and general knowledge acquisition. The findings related to organizing groups and allowing pupils to assign themselves roles led to categorizing other findings related to students’ enjoyment and performance.
