ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the implementation of Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and the use of Play Therapy with a 2-year-old and his family. TBRI is an attachment-based trauma focused modality which integrates the use of play therapy based on Theraplay. The use of play facilitates healing and fosters development. In this case study, the marriage and family therapist and registered play therapist integrates the TBRI skills within a family focus in therapy. Family therapy enhances a secure bond between parents and child. Parents are seen as emotional regulators and change agents as it relates to young children’s mental health. A variety of techniques are exemplified throughout the chapter describing the core principles and strategies of TBRI.
