ABSTRACT

School-based violence prevention programs can support comprehensive treatment plans for youth with or at risk for emotional/behavioral disorders (EBD). The current chapter focuses on the potential benefits and challenges in addressing some ecological and individual risk factors for EBD through school-based youth violence prevention programs. In this chapter, we identify risk factors for youth violence exposure that may be manifested in the ecologies and characteristics of youth with or at risk for EBD. We discuss how these risk factors are linked to youth violence prevention programs in school settings. The research needed to better understand the relevance of these types of prevention programs for youth with or at risk for EBD and implementation challenges are also discussed.
