ABSTRACT

Students with emotional/behavioral disorders (EBD) need supports and services from educational professionals who reflect the cultural, ethnic, and racial diversity of their communities. Reflecting an ecological perspective with emphasis on prevention and treatment are essential to ensure a strong fit between the characteristics of students with or at-risk of EBD and their classroom/school environment. This chapter examines key issues related to developing and supporting a more diverse educational workforce prepared in culturally competent strategies and approaches such as universal design for learning intended to improve academic and functional, post school outcomes for students identified with EBD.
