ABSTRACT

The goal of ethics study is too often considered an understanding of ethics so that one can make the right decisions and be a “good” professional. However, there are several standards of “goodness” which may cause confusion or conflict, and many factors that may make clear responses to ethical dilemmas difficult. In this chapter, we will review legal, ethical, and moral understanding of what it means to be “good.” In addition, we will address absolutist and relativist philosophies of ethics as well as the dangers of slippery slope fallacies when studying ethics.
