ABSTRACT

This chapter provides some of the concepts and theories associated with groups and teams in particular in relation to their dynamics and development in the workplace. It explores how systematic analysis of the organisation structure and the introduction of tailor-made work groups and team formations at work will result in the provision of a sound and efficient service to the client, improved relationships at work and hence greater success for the organisation as the whole. The working of the group and the influence which they exert over their membership is an essential feature of human behaviour and of organisational performance. One of the areas of research critical to both understanding and developing effective teams is how a disparate group develops into an effective working team. The diagram explains the work relationships and accountability lines, to the Lead, and soon became known as the Bubble Diagram, a term given to the roles provided in the new structure.
