ABSTRACT

The introduction of computer technology, especially computer networks, leads to fundamental economic and organisational change in modern enterprises. Compared to traditional technology the benefits of modern technology are indirect and difficult to quantify. Evaluation of investments should, therefore, not be restricted to cost/benefit analysis. An Organisation becomes more flexible and less hierarchical, and autonomous workgroups are developed. For a detailed analysis of these processes, it is necessary to apply a holistic, interdisciplinary approach as computer technology affects many aspects of modern working life.
