ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the hunch that the impact of a curriculum development project is closely related to the effort that is put in at the start and during its early implementation. A curriculum project works on the assumption that trial schools will work towards objectives established as part of the trial. The chapter describes that curriculum projects as the equivalent of aid programmes to promote economic growth. The lasting impact on the curriculum and organization of the schools was assessed in the term following the trial period. However great the investment by the sponsoring agent and the project team, long-term success of innovation depends on efforts made in the schools. No predictions of the optimum size of team could be predicted from early meetings with teachers in the trial schools. As teachers got involved in the crises within their school, they gave up integrated studies with the full agreement of the project team.
