ABSTRACT

The National University of Ireland (NUI) offers a very small number of grants to students with disabilities, who are attending one of the NUI colleges. The Association for Higher Education Access and Disability was set up to promote the full participation of students with disabilities in Higher Education. The government through the Departments of Health and Social Welfare offers allowances/pensions to persons with disabilities. Students with disabilities have always been welcome at University College, Dublin. Integration is fundamental to the success of the Programme, Every effort has to be made to prevent marginalisation of these students. With reference to students with impaired mobility Belfield is the largest and most accessible University Campus in Ireland. Faculty networking and the sharing of good practice will lead to progress in developing policy and making provision for students with disabilities. A committee has been set up by the Registrar to deal with particular applications from people with disabilities.
