ABSTRACT

Adapting the well-known African proverb, it takes a community to raise a child. Themes underpinning Section 3 include communication, politics and pedagogical documentation in exploring how communities can make provision for children’s desire to play. Communities may be viewed as central to citizenship and belonging, containing families and places such as early childhood centres, schools and more. The chapters in this section present three different angles on community and play, adding to perceptions of how children can play in and with their communities.
