ABSTRACT

Adult education is a prosiac term which seems to place emphasis upon genetics rather than upon educational aims. If adult educators are to carry conviction supported by valid feelings, sound reasoning, and cultural meaning, they must soon define the goals for which adult education is designed as an instrument. Adult education, wherever it has become a live issue and wherever it has succeeded in something more that a quantitative sense, has been thought of and pursued as an instrument for social change and not merely as a means for increasing the efficiency or the smartness of a few selected individuals. Administrators of teacher training institutions should begin to introduce adult education items in their budgets. Before adult education can be incorporated as a permanent part of public education and in turn integrated with the plans of higher institutions of learning, something will need to happen to the cloistered members of faculties.
