ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides the good practice which is relevant to the education of all pupils with special educational needs not just this small group. It argues that the National Curriculum is a curriculum for all and that there is a continuum of educational provision for all pupils. The book focuses on practitioners in the field of education and voluntary agencies, who have worked to ensure that the right of access exists to a broad and balanced curriculum for pupils with special needs. It details powerful messages for educators of all pupils in all types of schools. The book discusses principles and strategies of relevance to all educators working with children and young people, with a focus upon pupils with severe learning difficulties (SLD).
