ABSTRACT

Increased availability and extended use of microtechnology is in many ways the most obvious application of Technical and Vocational Education Initiative (TVEI) funding, and the range of uses is extensive. Acceptance of TVEI funding, however, has meant acceptance of the obligation to develop Records of Achievement, and experiences have been instructive, in respect both of the perceived value of the process, and of the strategies employed. Residential visits are a parallel part of the course and are also supported by TVEI funding. The schools' description of the project is worth reproducing at length, not because it is out of the ordinary, but because it illustrates a comprehensive approach to curriculum planning which merges school aims, TVEI aims and National Curriculum aims. The school went on systematically to match many of the tasks undertaken by students against various Attainment Targets which had been suggested at that time in the draft proposals of the Design and Technology National Curriculum Working Group.
