ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book demonstrates the use of both at Adlerian and client-centered play therapy in the treatment of a boy who has been identified as the school bully and who yearns to be accepted by others. It utilizes individual and group counseling and play therapy to help dysregulated children and teens avoid the coming zombie apocalypse within. The book explores Narrative and Strategic therapies with Critical Race Theory to help young clients of color make sense of and peace with their burgeoning yet conflicting identities. It shows how each of the Avengers can be harnessed to aid a young client overcoming inner villains through client-centered play therapy. Superheroes and supervillains had populated their playrooms and therapy spaces in strange, unexpected but typically useful ways with their clients—of all ages.
