ABSTRACT

This chapter shows that the work of all the people involved in Girls made sense even as it involved manipulating real things and making other real things. The motives, as written by public relations people, proposal writers, or other altogether anonymous authors, developed the conceit that some girls need help from experts, institutions, and, in this case, business corporations in their charitable mode. This help, it was said, involved using the best and most powerful tools available. The girls only met a very few of the people who had assembled. In early 2014, Girls Now was terminated by the funding LMNC and the host Non-Governmental Organization, Women Now. The Girls Now website was removed from the Internet and the work done by up to 500 girls over the years disappeared. This disassembling took place over a few months, far from the local offices where Wessler worked.
