ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the environmental education awareness raising of employees within an organisation during their working lives. Chapter six was directed at the issue of environmental education for the development of undergraduates who will become tomorrow's managers. The authors aim to explore a continuation of this theme by addressing two key issues: firstly, there is the problem that "environmental education has not yet been sufficiently incorporated into the elementary, secondary, and general university curriculum to develop an environmentally knowledgable and concerned citizenry"1; and secondly, "even when such widespread environmental education does occur, it will not be entirely sufficient to prepare individuals to deal with environmental issues as managers"2. Corporations have a vital role to play in the successful utilisation of environmental management through the education of their workforce, and this chapter will outline some of the ways that this can be achieved.
