ABSTRACT

This chapter offers valuable insights and suggestions related to drivers, practices and outcomes concerning corporate climate change strategies in Brazil. In establishing a particular strategy, managers are driven by both external forces and internal capabilities. Climate change creates diverse risks and opportunities that are perceived differently by different companies which will decide what practices should be adopted and outcomes consider appropriate. Companies may undertake one of four different strategies ranging from a minimalist approach to the regulation shaper, pressure manager or greenhouse gas emission avoiders. Climate change risks are of a magnitude that requires rethinking the business model and respectful attitude towards stakeholders and the natural environment. Progress and evolution of corporate climate change strategies will be limited until global and local regulatory systems are put in place.
