ABSTRACT

Yet another education reform initiated in 2016 in Croatia sparked off numerous public debates and protests resulting in conflicting narratives that scarcely focused on education, but revolved around topics such as historical events, patriotism, and national and cultural identity. Metaphors in the narratives also contributed to the reform being perceived as a battlefield widening the gap between the opposing sides. The reform attempt came down to the fight over a valuable object – the new curriculum – without sincerely taking into account pupils’ benefit and prospects for a better future.
