ABSTRACT

Continuous cropping of a given piece of agricultural land tends to result in excessive decrease of plant nutrients. One way of restoring soil fertility or increasing land productivity is to use fertilizer. In Ghana, in an attempt to increase land productivity, successive post-independence governments have implemented policies geared towards increasing and sustaining the use of fertilizer by farmers. This raises the issue as to the nature of such policies and the extent to which the policies have influenced the demand for fertilizer by farmers.
