ABSTRACT
The IPM library currently serves 45,000 members throughout the UK. Most of the work is conducted over the telephone and the service handles up to 170 calls per day requesting anything from a simple address and telephone number to extremely detailed literature searches. In response to enquiries, material is sent out by post in the form of books and photocopied journal articles. The library has a team of 10 full-time professionals, four part-time and seven clericals. In addition there is a part-time abstracter employed on a short-term contract.
