ABSTRACT

As technology continues to advance rapidly, deviant individuals continue to exploit these gains to victimize others (Griffiths, 2000). While the term cybercrime encompasses a broad range of activities, this chapter focuses solely on three interpersonal cybercrimes in which a perpetrator intentionally engages in online behaviors to inflict harm on another (Navarro & Clevenger, 2017). Specifically, this chapter discusses patterns across the literature in terms of offenders, victims, and incident characteristics within the cyberbullying, cyber dating abuse/intimate partner abuse, and cyberstalking fields. Though knowledge of these offenses has grown throughout the years, significant work remains – particularly in establishing clear definitions. Despite this drawback in the wider cybercriminology field, this chapter demonstrates that scholars have made significant strides in understanding the etiology of several interpersonal cybercrimes, which will aid in the combatting of these offenses through prevention and intervention programming.
