ABSTRACT
This study advances our understanding of delayed gratification. Before this experiment, studies had predominantly put the emphasis on an individual’s capacity to wait (#13). In fact, in studies that did not account for teacher reliability as a factor, the average wait time before succumbing to the marshmallow temptation was around six minutes. This is half the wait time of the reliable teacher condition and twice as long as the unreliable teacher condition in this experiment.
