ABSTRACT

Research into pre-questions has found that they can be effective regardless of whether they are multiple choice, open ended, fill-in-the-blank or short-answer questions. Researchers have offered three possible reasons as to why they may be effective. Firstly, that the use of pre-questions allows students to preview the nature of the lesson. Secondly, it arouses a sense of curiosity and engagement. Thirdly and finally, it can help reduce overconfidence in learners who may approach a lesson believing they already know everything. This then makes them more responsive to the lesson and open to learning.
