ABSTRACT

A large number of adolescents in prisons, but also youngsters who are refugees or our own marginalized children and adolescents in our societies can tell their stories of living through violence. For children one basic right is to have the chance to develop, physically, mentally and spiritually, to learn and to be instructed, according to their capabilities. Violence has many negative effects on the psychological development of children and adolescents. Trauma affects children in two different ways depending on whether it is a singular or repetitive occurrence. Marginalization is evident in all four cases. These are: fathers absent or without jobs, mothers who have to carry all the weight of a marginalized family, poverty due to the status of single breadwinners, overwhelmed by tasks of life, ready to decompensate at one or another moment and become violent themselves with their children.
